Our Story

Founded in 1993 by Brian and Deb Joel in British Columbia, Positec began with a clear mission: to support Canadian retailers with modern, efficient tools that simplify daily operations. What started in the Joel family garage has grown into a national success story, with nearly 500 stores powered by the Margin Plus legacy system and its successor, Finestra POS.

In 2016, Mark Dunlop joined the Positec team as Vice President and played a key role in doubling the company's store count in just five years.

As the retail landscape evolved, so did Positec—expanding offerings to include eCommerce, Local Inventory on Google, Vendor Portal, Delivery Module, Self Checkout, Positouch and more. Through it all, the company has remained focused on what matters most: its customers. That includes not only independent stores, but also the many Canadian retail pharmacy banners proudly supported by Positec, working closely with their regional and head office teams to ensure long-term success.

In 2021, Brian and Deb stepped back to enjoy retirement and time with their family. Brian continued to serve as Board Chair, while Mark took on the role of President & CEO. In 2024, Positec joined forces with Quadshift and its family of vertical software businesses. Under Mark's leadership and with Quadshift's support, innovation and growth continue to define the path forward.

Today, Positec's solutions power over 1,300 locations across the country, from small-town pharmacies to high-traffic retail centres.
